HEARTBURN!

Ok, maybe i should have blog abt the above titled at 4am last nite, so as to show the seriousness of it... Now at 38 wks and 5 days of gestation, i have been going thru many different 'sufferings' that a typical preggy woman at her very last 2 wks would face.

Besides the clumsy movements, pain at pelvic area (increasingly sore feeling), sudden BIG appetite (that even i myself am amazed!), increase in wgt (hopefully all go to baby! :P), hot flashes, frequent sweating and feeling sticky all day long (even sit there also feel HOT :( ), there is this thingy call the HEARTBURN & I dont like it AT ALL. :I

Meaning of Heartburn (during pregnancy): - from Babycenter.com

"Heartburn (also called acid indigestion or acid reflux) is a burning sensation that often extends from the bottom of the breastbone to the lower throat. It's caused by some of the hormonal and physical changes in your body.

During pregnancy, the placenta produces the hormone progesterone, which relaxes the smooth muscles of the uterus. This hormone also relaxes the valve that separates the esophagus from the stomach, allowing gastric acids to seep back up, which causes that unpleasant burning sensation.

Progesterone also slows down the wavelike contractions of your esophagus and intestines, making digestion sluggish. Later in pregnancy, your growing baby crowds your abdominal cavity, pushing the stomach acids back up into the esophagus.

Many women start experiencing heartburn and other gastrointestinal discomforts in the second half of pregnancy. Unfortunately, it usually comes and goes UNTIL YOUR BABY IS BORN."

Gosh, it says until my baby is BORN...

Acty, i have not been sleeping well for the past few days and its mainly due to this. Maybe its also becos i do nothing much during daytime and thus during the nite time, i am not tired enuff to remain asleep whenever heartburn attack. I mean if you are dead tired, dont mentioned heartburn, i think even fire also wont wake you up! haha...

Last Nite:
Abt 12am - 1.45am : Managed to fall asleep

1.45am - 2.50am : Woke up cos of hot flashes. I was sweating under my thick blanket and with air con on at 19 deg and 3 out of 4 bar. Rightfully, its suppose to be COLD one, but i woke up cos i was sweating... Couldnt sleep after that becos of heartburn.

2.50am - 4.45am : So i decided to surf the net. Can you imagine surfing net at such wee hours? The whole SG is like zzzz and there i was, surfing the internet. duh... I goggles "heartburn" and read thru some remedies of it.

4.45am - (i think) near 6am : Decide to go back sleep at 4.45am, thinking that "hey this time i am tired liaoz, surely i can sleep.." I also tot that by this time, my heartburn problem should more of less go off liaoz... keke... Happily go zzzz...
BUT i toss and turn from 4.45 - near 6am (i think shld be 6am, cos i could see there was a little light from outside (Breaking dawn) and heard birds chirping (gosh, even birds also woke up liaoz and i am still not alseep??)...

6am - 11.20am : Finally, i fell asleep (but woke up at every hour...8am, 9am, 10plus am) zzzzz.....

So can you imagine?? I had Heartburn from like 11plus pm til near 6am! Mr Heartburn really beri hardworking ah, work from 11pm - 6am! Like night shift factory production worker!! *faint*

Now i am quite worried that its bedtime, just in case Mr Heartburn come and look for me! hahah...

Anw, some ways to decrease Heartburns: (by Babycenter.com)

• Avoid food and beverages that trigger your heartburn. The usual suspects are carbonated drinks; alcohol (which you should avoid anyway during pregnancy); caffeine; chocolate; acidic foods like citrus fruits and juices, tomatoes, mustard, and vinegar; mint products; processed meats; and spicy, highly seasoned, fried, or fatty foods.

• Eat small, frequent meals and chew your food slowly and thoroughly. Give yourself two or three hours to digest before going to bed or lying down.

• Sleep with extra pillows under your chest and head. Elevating your upper body will help keep your stomach acids where they belong. You could also try sleeping semi-upright in a comfy recliner.

• Choose clothing and sleepwear that are loose around your abdomen and waist.

And i dont know why, but it seems to strike more at night! Esp when i am preparing to sleep...

I hope i can sleep well from tonite onwards. *CONFESS!* Amen... :)
